The construction of a learning tower
Of Montessori conception, the learning tower, or learning tower, is a complement by which the child can participate in activities in the kitchen with mom or dad.
It consists of an elevated tower, on a small ladder, whose overall height reaches the kitchen worktop and, in total safety as it is closed on all four sides, allows the child to reach spaces that would otherwise be inaccessible to him.
A dear couple of friends commissioned me to build this turret for their little man at home and I was happy to build it for them.
The project
The construction requirements that I was asked for provided that:
the rear protective edge was easily removable, to facilitate the child's ascent and descent and to allow freer movements when he grows up;
an adjustable height of the last shelf of the ladder, therefore adaptable to the growth of the child;
some measures of the structure, in order to better adapt to their kitchen;
final color white.
I created a virtual 3D model of the project, inspired by the overall aesthetic of a tower; moreover, I wanted to make sure that the ladder could easily detach from the rest of the structure in order to be used separately for different purposes.
The design of a virtual model allows numerous advantages: being able to preview to the customer what we intend to achieve, study immediately, and possibly correct any technical-structural errors, and immediately have precise measurements in the construction phase.
The ladder
For the entire project I used 15 mm birch plywood, stable, resistant, suitable for the intended use.
So I immediately started building the ladder, starting from the preliminary cut of the panel with the measurements taken from the computer model.
